TEKKEN 8 Controller Settings — Best Button Layout

Updated 2026-06-03

Getting your TEKKEN 8 controller setup right is the first step to improving. The default layout works for casual play, but competitive players almost always customize their bindings. Whether you use a DualSense, Xbox controller, fight stick, or hitbox, this guide has the optimal layout for your hardware.

Gamepad layout (DualSense / Xbox)

The default layout puts 1 (LP) on square/X, 2 (RP) on triangle/Y, 3 (LK) on cross/A, and 4 (RK) on circle/B. The shoulder buttons are 1+2 (L1), 3+4 (R1), 1+4 (L2), and 2+3 (R2). This works, but I recommend swapping R2 and R1 so Heat (R1) is easier to reach. Also bind 1+3 and 2+4 to L2 and R2 for easy throw inputs.

ActionDefaultRecommended
Left Punch (1)Square / XSquare / X
Right Punch (2)Triangle / YTriangle / Y
Left Kick (3)Cross / ACross / A
Right Kick (4)Circle / BCircle / B
HeatR1R1 (keep easy access)
Rage Art2+3 (L2)L2 or L1 (personal preference)

Fight stick and hitbox

For fight sticks, the standard layout is 1 2 3 4 in a row. Many pros move 3 to the top row and 4 to the bottom for easier KBD (Korean Backdash). On hitbox, use the space bar for up to make electrics easier. The key is consistency — pick one layout and stick with it for a month before making changes.

Enable 'Action Button Display' in settings to see button names on screen instead of numbers. This makes it easier to follow combo guides that say 'press triangle' instead of 'press 2'.

FAQ

What controller do pro TEKKEN 8 players use?
Most pros use a fight stick or leverless (hitbox). Some top players like Arslan Ash use a DualSense. Use whatever feels comfortable — there is no objective best.
Can I use my PS4 controller on PC?
Yes. TEKKEN 8 on Steam supports DualShock 4 natively. Connect via USB or Bluetooth and Steam recognizes it automatically.
